I’ve never been in a serious relationship, but I still appreciate Valentine’s Day. I’d say it’s the hopeless romantic in me. Recently I’ve had the opportunity to work with Express to share new style inspiration. For this month, we’re highlighting the perfect Valentine’s date night outfit.
Find Your Perfect Fit
I keep it pretty simple when it comes to suits, which is why I rarely experiment with color. But I fell in love with this slim burgundy oxford stretch wool-blend suit. What I love about Express suits is that the fit is pretty spot on right off the rack. Express makes 3 cuts: extra-slim, slim and classic. I tend to gravitate towards the slim cut. You get that tailored look while accommodating a larger build. I also like that the slim fit pants have a higher rise which makes it easier to tuck in your shirts.

For reference, I’m wearing a size 44L suit jacket and 36×32 suit pant. Express‘s suit jackets tend to fit true to size. The only time I size up is if I buy the extra-slim cut. The suit pants on the other hand tend to run big. I usually wear a 38×32 in dress pants, but I always get a 36 at E
It’s All in the Details
People often tell me that I look slim, but it’s because I look for items that flatter my body type. One thing a lot of guys don’t pay attention to is the length of their jacket. I’ve learned that length can make or break a suit. Suit jackets come in short, regular and long. I’ve always bought a regular length because I thought I was an average height. After hearing Tom Ford discuss how jackets should cover your butt, I tried on a longer length. I haven’t looked back since because the longer length is so much more flattering and slimming for my body. I’m 6’0″ by the way.
I love this as an option for Valentine’s date night outfit because it’s smart and sexy. The tailoring makes you look sharp with little effort. The burgundy is also a nice style swerve. But it’s not so bold that you draw too much attention. Burgundy is also surprisingly versatile, so this is a suit you’d still get a lot of wear out of.
