Shelby KY Tourism Social Mixer Photo Diary

When you never leave your hometown, it’s common to develop a jaded attitude towards it. Having an interest in fashion and growing up in Kentucky, I’ve become a victim of this phenomenon. But, one benefit of blogging is that it’s forced me to make the most of the situation.ย I’ve mentioned in earlier poststhat I didn’t travel much growing up. Not even to the cities surrounding Lexington. I know that sounds crazy. But I bought my first car a couple of years ago so it wasn’t as easy to get around when I was younger. Since buying a car and studying abroad, I’ve felt the urge to travel a little more often. Below I’ve shared some ideas of things to do from my most recent trip with Shelby KY Tourism.

Shelby KY Tourism Social Mixer

Arrived at Holiday Inn

Shelby KY Tourism

Last week Shelby KY Tourism invited me to attend a social mixer to get a little taste of Shelby County. Before this trip, I wasn’t familiar with Shelby County. To be honest, I’ve never had theย desire to visit any of the smaller towns in Kentucky, but figured I would give it a chance. I’m so glad that I went on this day trip! It made me remember that Kentucky has a lot more to offer than meets the eye.

Our day trip began with a welcome reception at Undulata Farm.
While listening to live Bluegrass Music, all the guests got to know one another and ate breakfast. You can see above that the home was really charming. To give you a little background, Undulata Farm is actually where some of the top show horses are bred. Most people know Kentucky for horse racing but to my surprise, I learned that show horses are also a big deal. You’d think that races horses are more valuable. But I learned that show horses are actually worth a lot more.

Outlet Mall

The next stop on our trip was a visit to the Outlet Mall in Simpsonville, KY. On the car ride to the mall, I decided to book a flight to New York. So I didn’t get to shop as much as I would have liked to. But I did find the coolest pair of white Cole Haans, that I might go back for. The Coach outlet store was also having a 70% off sale so I did snag a pretty cool zip card case for under $25! After shopping, we broke for lunch at Johnny Rockets. I’ve tried to eat better, but calories don’t count on vacation right (even if it is a day trip)? My lunch included a cookies & cream milkshake, onion rings, chili cheese tots and a burger. Real healthy stuff!

The highlight of the trip was visiting a 5000 Sq.Ft. urban loft downtown. It was such a beautiful and eclectic space. The best part is that the space is actually available to rent on Airbnb. Not much I can say about the space so I’ll let the photos above do the talking.

Jeptha Creed: Cocktails and Dinner

Shelby KY Tourism

We concluded our trip with a tour and dinner at Jeptha Creed. I don’t drink so I wasn’t super excited about the tour. But, the tour guides impressed me with how they made me feel comfortable and included. At the end of the tour, a bartender demonstrated how to make a Flamin’ Strawberry Fields cocktail. I didn’t try the real thing, but I did get to try a mocktail version to sample which was thoughtful. Here’s the recipe if you’d like to try it for yourself.ย To wrap up the tour, we watched a live performance of “Love, Loss, & What I Wore” and ate a family style dinner.

Flamin’ Strawberry Fields

  • Muddle 1 strawberry and 1 mint spring in shaker
  • Add 1/2 oz Lime Juice
  • Add 1 1/2 oz Lemonade Moonshine or sub Lemonade
  • Add 1/4 oz Pomegranate Liqueur or sub Pomegranate Juice
  • Add 1/2 of Jalapeรฑo Syrup
  • Shake then rim rocks glass with smoked paprika rim. Double strain over ice.
We weren’t required to write about the experience, but I was so impressed that I wanted to share. To plan out your own trip, you can visit Shelby KY Tourism’s official website. ย
