How to Balance Combination Skin and Prevent Unwanted Shine

I’ve been hard working to improve my grooming routine since graduating from college. Read more about my grooming routine here. I’ve finally stopped using the same moisturizer for my body and face since body lotion can clog pores. But I still struggle with unwanted shine. A lot of people assume that oily skin is a sign they don’t need a moisturizer, but that’s a misconception. Our bodies produce oil to accommodate dry skin. So skipping a moisturizer can actually cause oily skin. Volition Beauty is a company that recently launched at Sephora. They reached out to me about trying their Oceanene Youth-Boost Gel. The lightweight moisturizer has turned out to be exactly what I need for my combination skin.

The lower half of my face tends to be dry. So heavier moisturizers help balance it out. The only downside is that my forehead ends up looking shiny. A lot of moisturizers boast about being like a drink of water for your skin. Volition’s boost gel is the first moisturizer I’ve tried that lives up to that description. The consistency is more watery than I’m used to, but it’s deeply hydrating. Most importantly it balances out my combination skin so it looks glowy, not shiny. It’s also packed with anti-aging ingredients like brown algae for younger-looking skin. Younger skin may not seem important, but we’re not getting any younger and neither is our skin. I’ve only used the moisturizer for about a week. I’m excited to see how it improves dullness and my uneven texture over time.
