Strength to Be and Body Positivity

Body positivity has been a trending topic for the past couple of years. Check out my post about one of my favorite body positive brands here. The one thing I hate about this movement is the hypocritical internet trolls. The point of body positivity is encouraging us to love ourselves and stop trying to fit into one mold because all body types are beautiful.

I’ve felt pressure to lose weight ever since I was a kid, but I’m more comfortable with my body now. My confidence is still a work in progress, but I no longer feel the need to hide when I’m at the pool, gym, etc. At the same time, I still want to make changes to my appearance. Sadly some people who preach about body positivity think that losing weight is a bad thing. That idea is absolutely insane and hypocritical.

It’s crucial to understand that we’re fine the way we are because beauty comes in all shapes and sizes. However, if you’re unhappy with your body, it’s okay to make changes as long as you go about it in a healthy way. No one should define our happiness but ourselves. I️’ve lost a lot of weight in pursuit of my ideal body type and people throw shade at me for it from time to time. If you feel the need to shame someone whether they’re big or small it says a lot about how you feel about your own body.

Life’s too short to base your decisions on the opinions of other people. For the longest time, I️ was scared to go the gym. You just think that everyone’s going to judge you for being out of shape. Looking back, I️ realize how narcissistic it is to think everyone would be judging me while I️ workout.

Now that I’ve overcome my fear of working out at the gym, I’ve been trying to step up my style. I’m notorious for wearing ratty sweats and frat tees to workout which stops being okay after college. Gym clothes should never hinder a workout but a lot of my old outfits take away from exercising. It’s so distracting having to readjust your outfit. Some pants don’t have pockets, so I️ can’t listen to music. My shorts will rise until it looks like I’m wearing a diaper.

Luckily my friends at the new Lululemon at the Summit at Fritz Farm gifted me with some new gear to test out. I️ did a leg workout today in my new gear and now I️ see what all the hype is about. The metal vent tech short sleeve tee I’m wearing in these photos is honestly the softest thing I️ own. I️’m usually tugging and readjusting my shirts but this one features four-way stretch so it just moves with you.

I also love these rise ‘n sweat shorts. They have an eight-inch inseam and are cut with extra room through the butt and quads so they’re the perfect length and fit. The fabric is a little sturdier than most gym shorts so they can actually be worn to the pool which is an added bonus. The pockets are the right size to keep my phone in place which is a major key. I️ don’t have to worry about my phone falling out of my pocket during a set.

The intent pant is extremely comfortable as well. The main thing that stands out is the Luon fabric. It’s sweat-wicking and has four-way stretch so you never have to worry about feeling constricted during a workout.

When it comes to Lululemon price points are often a deal breaker especially for guys. After testing everything out, I can truly say you’ll get your money’s worth. The quality is unlike anything I’ve ever worn before.

The most admiral thing about Lululemon is how they’re encouraging men to be ourselves and define our own idea of masculinity. Not only is it important to be secure with our outward appearance but it’s important to be secure with our inner self. We try to overcompensate for our insecurities by being overly masculine. However, true masculinity comes from being your most authentic self.
